Overview

The prestigious Lothar Späth Award was presented for the third time on 16 November. The awards were presented in recognition of outstanding collaborations between companies and research institutions from Baden-Württemberg or Thuringia. Due to the high quality of the projects submitted, the expert jury decided on a total of five award winners. The third prize was awarded three times and is endowed with 20,000 euros each. In addition to sustainability aspects, this year’s prizewinners also focussed on medical innovations that can save and prolong human lives.

The award winners

One of the third-place winners is FORMIC Transportsysteme GmbH together with the Institute of Materials Handling and Logistics Systems, also based at KIT. They impressed the expert jury with their swarm-based transport system for heavy loads.

ICODOS GmbH from Mannheim also took third place together with the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). ICODOS addresses the defossilisation of shipping and chemicals with a patented hybrid technology in which CO2 capture is integrated into methanol synthesis and the methanol-water mixture serves as a solvent.

Congratulations to the winners.
