KIT spin-off and investment NOXON produces bionic clothing that can analyse and support human movement, allowing the body to move with more freedom and control than with crutches, walking aids or wheelchairs.
NOXON combines nano-based materials with mass printing processes to produce flexible, stretchable, washable and cost-effective sensors that can be applied to different materials. These sensors measure muscle activity and utilise the therapeutic possibilities of Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES). The result is a lightweight, durable garment that can be worn and used anywhere and improves muscle health. In the first application, the team is using the garments to counteract muscle atrophy after sports injuries to the knee. To do this, the system is simply integrated into stockings, plasters or bandages, where it measures muscles and activates them in a targeted manner without movement.
How did the company come about, what challenges had to be overcome, where did they get support and what do you do when the first investor knocks on the door far too early? You can find out all this and much more in our PODCAST episode with Noxon. Daniela talks to Marius from the founding team, who primarily represents the technical side of the young start-up.
