Overview

Full house down to the last seat at our IMPULSE evening on 26 April at TRIANGEL Open Space with CO-CEO Tim Stracke from Chrono24: Around 200 participants listened to the very personal and exciting entrepreneurial journey of the KIT alumnus with all its ups and downs. And the enthusiasm of the 200 or so listeners was clearly palpable in the Q&A session that followed.

Tim Stracke studied industrial engineering at KIT and already founded his first start-up during his studies. The sale of the second company in particular was unsatisfactory for him, but nevertheless it was clear to the founder: he wants to continue to be an entrepreneur and work independently.

As a result, he and his partners looked for a new business idea. They found a product that was generating enormous sales on the Ebay platform: luxury watches. They set about doing market research and asked sellers about their satisfaction with Ebay. Hardly any of the respondents were even remotely satisfied with the marketplace. At the same time, many referred to another platform that specialised in the luxury watch segment: Chrono24, a small but already very successful company from Hesse.

And the rest is history: Tim and his co-founders bought Chrono24 in spring 2010. For Tim personally, the hit: with the start-up he was able to combine his three passions – mechanics, entrepreneurship and online marketplaces. Today, Chrono24 is THE online marketplace for luxury watches worldwide and was developed by the founders into the first “Karlsruhe Start-up Unicorn”: Chrono24 was valued at over one billion US dollars in the last financing round in 2021.

What moves Tim as an entrepreneur, he revealed to us shortly before IMPULSE. Listen to our current podcast episode “NACHGEFRAGT“.
